Backlit Control Panel Assemblies (CPA)
Description
Control Panel Assemblies (CPAs) incorporate Control Panels (CPs) with functioning hardware to produce units that act and operate to a customer’s needs. Designed, built, tested and qualified in accordance with MIL DTL 7788, DO-160 and / or customer (MIL/Comm Aero) specifications. Solder workmanship is performed in compliance to IPC J STD 001. Solder and assembly acceptance is certified to IPC A 610. Wire and harness acceptance is certified to IPC A 620.
A basic CPA consists of:
- Control Panel (CP)
- Mount Plate
- Connector Plate
- Common Hardware (including captive screws, grommet, washers, grounding terminal lug)
- Standoffs
- Enclosures
- Wire
- Connector
- Test Cable
An assortment of common components specific to each CPA include:
- Knobs
- Toggles
- Encoders
- Potentiometers
- Rotary switches
- Push/pull switches
- Switchguards
- Fingerguards
- Pushbutton Assemblies (PBAs)
- Annunciators
- Light Indicators
FTG has the ability to integrate a large range of components from simple toggles to dual concentric encoders and beyond.
Applications
- Flightworthy and Simulated (trainers) Aircrafts
- Flightworthy
- Includes all airplanes, helicopters, or any other machines (both military and commercial) that are capable of flight.
- Non-Flightworthy
- Platforms or Simulators that simulate a representation of an airplane, helicopter, or any other machine capable of flight for the purpose of training or presentation.
- These will have yellow connector plates

Types
- With Enclosures (Enclosed)
- Enclosures provide protection from EMI that can cause avionic equipment performance to degrade or even malfunction. They also help reduce the introduction of foreign object debris (FOD).
These will have a yellow stripe or fully yellow enclosure plate- They may or may not have holes drilled in the enclosure (preferably not)
- Enclosures provide protection from EMI that can cause avionic equipment performance to degrade or even malfunction. They also help reduce the introduction of foreign object debris (FOD).
- Without Enclosures (Open)
- These CPAs do not have components that require EMI shielding. Foreign object debris (FOD) may be a point of debate, but this CPA will not interfere with the communication of the aircraft mock-up.
- CPAs without enclosures
These will have yellow connector plates
